📍 Dr. Balkachew Nigatu is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology currently working at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda and has a faculty position at the University of Rwanda and serves as the Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship program director. He did his medical education at the then Gondar College of Medical Sciences (now University of Gondar) and residency at the Addis Ababa University Medical Faculty. Also completed his fellowship (subspecialty) training on Maternal Fetal Medicine in 2018 at St. Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC). He started his career in academia at Mekelle University, later on joined SPHMMC from where he moved to Kigali by April 2021. He has a growing number of scientific publications in both national and international journals. He served SPHMMC at different positions which includes as post-graduate programs director and academics and research vice provost till he become the founding director of St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights (SPIRHR). He is a member of national professional associations including the Ethiopian Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology where he previously served as the vice president for 4 years.
