Undergraduate

Duration: 4 Years

Bachelor of Science with Honours in Midwifery

Program overview

The Bachelor of Science with Honours in Midwifery at AHSU prepares aspiring midwives to deliver compassionate, evidence-based maternal and newborn care. Through a four-year competency-based training pathway, students develop the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional values needed to contribute meaningfully to maternal and newborn health in Rwanda and beyond. Since welcoming its inaugural cohort in September 2024, the program has been supported by a diverse faculty with experience from Rwanda, South Africa, Zambia, the United States, Ethiopia, Uganda and other countries.
Students begin clinical rotations in their first year, allowing them to integrate classroom learning with early practical exposure. Clinical training takes place at King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, Kacyiru District Hospital, Kibagabaga Level II Teaching Hospital, and some health centers. Throughout their rotations, students are supported by faculty supervisors at the clinical sites and further strengthen their practical skills through skills laboratory sessions at the AHSU campus.
